Costa Rica Retreat [13 Dec 2007|01:42pm]

see_kelly_bloom
Hello All!

My yoga retreat to Costa Rica needs 5 more people to sign up by Dec 31
or it will be canceled. Beginners and people who have never done it
at all are welcome! There are daily excursions where we go WHITE WATER
RAFTING, ZIP LINING, HORSEBACK RIDING, ETC. This is regular RELAXING
yoga, not hot yoga. Spouses and children who are not planning to do yoga are welcome!
This is a wonderful spot with plenty to do for those who like
adventure and a restful, quiet spot in the universe for those who need
to just lay around in a hammock!

Check out the website, it's worth it to give it a look!

New :) [18 May 2007|01:38pm]

Name- The Boom Bah
Location- Sydney, Australia
How you found out about it- I don't remember, randomly came across it last year has taken me up until twelve days ago to start
Reason for going? Wanted to detox, improve core strength and flexibility for dancing. Intended only to take advantage of the $17 unlimited ten day pass at my college for a bootcamp conditioning step up and then maybe attend once a week, three days in realised I was in love...
Years practiced- 0! Only twelve days!
Are you a teacher? Nope
Want to go to teacher traing? I'm not looking that far ahead, just enjoying the practice
Favorite pose- CAMEL! WOW! Even on the days when it makes me cry... ESPECIALLY on those days!
Least favorite pose- ummm... probably Triangle... but only because it is really hard for me... but that's really why it's so good isn't it...
Favorite benefit- So far, the mental envigoration, discipline and the improved muscle tone and strength, I'm sure I've had some fat loss as well and my breathing has improved
Cured any health problems? Didn't have any major ones, just wanting to see greater flexibility, which takes time. Hopefully it will help my digestion as well.

And anything else you want to share.

In just twelve days I have become quite passionate about Bikram Yoga; I have never practice yoga before and didn't really intend to start. Now I am onto my one month unlimited pass and am going everyday, usually at 6.00am. I love it! It is the challenge I have been looking for so long, mentally, physically and emotionally.

I noticed on the Bikram website a nutritionist recommended taking sea salt and potassium tablets to replace nutrients lost during the workout that can lead to fatigue, headaches and dizziness... I would like to strongly recommend against this, as anything taken in a capsule is usually passed as expensive yellow urine and sea salt is abrasive to our beautiful internal organs... INSTEAD... whip up a smoothie of 2-3 bananas and 2-3 stalks of celery with half a litre of water. You can have more bananas and celery if you wish and more water if you want a bigger drink. This satisfying and tasty beverage will more than adequately replace lost sodium and potassium and energise you as well as help your muscles recover from their wonderful workout; additionally it is food that is easily recognised by the body and eagerly absorbed and utilised.

Hi... my name is Doug. I turned 49 last December and decided to give myself a present so started up Bikram Yoga on December 30th. Been able to average about 5 classes a week and absolutely loving it. I've been working out on and off most of my life but it's been more of the traditional weight and cardio type of routines. Decided it was time to start taking my workouts in a slightly different direction and had been wanting to try the Bikram ever since seeing articles in the paper about it a few years back. Better late than never I suppose... :-)

How is everyones yoga practice coming?

I took a Bikram class in Nashua NH this past Friday with my boyfriend. He loved it. I am very excited at the possibility of going to a few classes together.

I am going out to Las Vegas for a week very soon. Has anyone gone to any of the studios in Las Vegas? How did you like them?

Any other news and tips for a relatively new comer please let me know.

Hi there,
I've been meaning to join this community for a while, so here I am. :) I am adoring my Bikram practice, and starting to see and feel the benefits.

Name- trixieblue
Location- NJ, USA
How you found out about it- Researching different yogas to try; there was a good article in Yoga Journal, I think, that outlined the main types.
Reason for going? The spirituality connected to yoga, general interest, to get stronger and in better shape.
Years practiced- I just started up again last month, but I went sporadically before that.
Are you a teacher? Nope.
Want to go to teacher traing? I thought so at first, but I'd rather use my time in the Very Hot Room actually doing the poses myself.
Favorite pose- Currently (and surprisingly) Awkward, because I'm getting better at it. Ooh, and Tree, because now I'm attempting Toe Stand, so that's really cool for me.
Least favorite pose- It's a toss-up between the first side-stretching pose and Triangle. Triangle eats my soul.
Favorite benefit- My balance is improving in the one-legged standing series. Mentally, I feel a lot more focused.
Cured any health problems? Not yet, but hoping it'll help my pinged piriformis muscle. Actually, it does put me in a MUCH better mood, so that counts.

Well, good night all.

compresion and breathing [07 Jul 2005|10:52am]

Hello! I'm new to Bikram and this forum. I've been doing yoga seriously for about 1 month, and I can already feel the benefits.
I have two questions on poses.
In the poses like the spine twisting pose, I find it hard to breathe because of the compression of my stomach. Also, in other poses like rabbit, the stomach is supposed to be sucked in, but I have a hard time controlling it in this position. Any advice?
I was told by my brother who is taking a different style of yoga (I don't recall which one), and he said that the instructor warns against locking out parts of the body because it's not a natural position. Any comments on this?
These are the current concerns that come to mind.
Thanks!

Standing Head to Knee [10 Apr 2005|11:10am]

This one is one of my most difficult poses to do in Bikam. My feet hurt really badly, and I can barely stretch out the leg I am holding. I'm starting slow, I know. :) How long did it take you guys to master this one?
